Information About Yorkies
The Yorkshire Terrier originated in Yorkshire and Lancashire, a county in northern England, In the mid-19th century by working men who developed the breed for catching the terrible rodents that infested clothing mills and mine shafts. These hunting dogs would penetrate into badger and fox burrows. The breed is not very old, At first, the Yorkie was a much bigger animal than the one we see today, but by selectively breeding the smallest individuals, the dog was gradually miniaturized over the years. The Yorkshire Terrier was first recognized by the AKC in 1885. Yorkshire Terriers seem oblivious of their small size. They are very eager for adventure. This little dog is highly energetic, brave, loyal and clever. With owners who take the time to develop a bond with the Yorkie, this mighty little dog will make an excellent companion! Their personality is generally affectionate and playful, It has a true terrier heritage and loves attention. Yorkies are easy to train, although they can sometimes be stubborn if owners do not give the dog proper boundaries. The Yorkie is an excellent watchdog and can be trusted with children. These are truly sweet little dogs that need owners who will give them a gentle and caring life. Yorkshire Terriers can thrive in any living situation, including apartment life. Though regular daily exercise is an important part of keeping a Yorkie in good health and body condition, the breed does not do well in cold weather for long periods of time.
